In 1903 Job Morris, along with his brother-in-law Parkes and friend Martin arrived in Wagin from South Australia. They set up business at the corner of Tudhoe Street and Narrogin Road as wagon builders, blacksmiths and funeral directors. Parkes, a nephew of Sir Henry Parkes, one of the Fathers of Federation, dealt mainly with the clerical side of the business. Martin was the blacksmith while Morris did most of the wagon building. These were the "Boom Years" in Wagin with the population escalating to around 3,000 people between 1900-1910. Rapid progress came to the settlement with the building of the railway line between Perth and Albany. Land was quickly taken up and the town was thriving with overseas and interstate immigrants arriving each day. Job Morris and his partners dissolved their partnership in 1907 and Job moved east across the railway line, to where the engineering works is now situated, and opened his own business. He specialised in the manufacture of heavy drays and wagons able to carry loads of bagged wheat in four-bushel bags. His wagons were also in demand for the growing ballet bark industry and with the mechanisation of farm machinery, his business supplied parts for ploughs and heavy shares for the purpose of dam sinking. As well as being involved in the manufacturing industry, Job Morris was a lay minister and funeral director. Starting in 1904 with a horse drawn hearse he conducted most of the town's funerals until his retirement in 1922. He was the Secretary for many years at the Mechanics Institute where he also taught blacksmithing. Job's wife Phoebe died in 1911. The couple had six children - Henry, Alfred, Phoebe, Frank, Georgina and Eva. He later married Martha (Meta) McNeil Pollock. Job Morris died in 1990 at the age of 79.
