Anne SEARLE is listed in the Southern Cross Cemetery (Pioneer) Transcriptions.
Anne SEARLE was my GG Grandmother.
She was nursing the sick during the plague of Black Flu; she succumbed to the disease herself and died.
She was born in the Jeramongup area, the daughter of Robert Gamble and Eliza.
Her husband whom she married when she was just 14 years old was a convict, William SEARLE.
At the time of her death in Southern Cross, Williiam was contract carting Sandalwood between Southern Cross and Coolgardie with their eldest daughters husband, Dick Burridge, and their son, George Burridge.
William SEARLE and Margaret (Maggie) SEARLE (nee MAHER) buried at Narrogin were William and Anne SEARLEs Son and Daughter in law. Maggie was the daughter of John and Catherine MAHER (nee McGough). William Peter and Dorothy Jean Sukroo. William Peter Sukroo looks to have been the son of Peter and Adelaide Sukroo ( both buried in the Karrakatta/Perth Cemetery). Willie (possibly buried in Fremantle) Sukroo was my grandmothers uncle (mother Elizabeth Ann Sukroo/Brennans brother) as was Peter (husband of Adelaide). Unfortunately unlike most of the NZ, NSW and Victorian based Sukroo family members (cousins) with this name, the Western Australian ones were largely adopted (apparently). According to my mother. Might explain the lack of head stones.
So its been a rather tricky enterprise when some of them contact me asking for information on the family. I even think that some of them have taken on the Sukroo name when (in actuality) they where Adelaides or Dorothys children from a previous relationship. But again - I need to research this area more. Im currently operating from the standpoint of hearsay. But my mother is invariably very accurate. After all they were her great uncles.
Both Willie Sukroo (fought in France in WW1) aged 43 and Peter Sukroo were born in Bairnsdale (Wyung) Vic to Wilhelm Von/Van Sukro (1838 Posen Prussia/Poland-1899 Wyung/Bairnsdale) and Anne/Annie Lynch (born Cavan Ireland) died Bairnsdale 1916. They both made at least biannual visits to Sale/Bairnsdale Vic - hence my mother (born 1941 and her brother born 1935) having an opportunity to get to know (a fair bit) about them. Her mother was (my grandmother) Amy Elizabeth Brennan m. Hickey 1935. 1909 Sale, Vic-1989 Echuca Vic. Uncle Willie Sukroo was apparently a camel driver in Fremantle (and at one time possibly the unofficial mayor of Fremantle WA). He was a plumber?/fixed windmills. As for GG Uncle Peter Sukroo Im not entirely certain what he got up to. Willie made more frequent visits back to Victoria and was unmarried- take a look at his military injuries and youll soon work out possibly why. I havent found his grave yet...think that he died in the 1950s. There were 5 or 6 Sukroo brothers and two sisters (Bertha Emma Sukroo died 1915 in tragic circumstances) and Elizabeth Ann Sukroo (Brennan died 1963) (my great grandmother) (Im named after her). Jimmy (James) Sukroo, Patrick Albert (known as Albert) Sukroo (Stratford) and Frederick Sukroo (NZ) (American ones decended from him).
