Charles was born in Penmaenmawr, Caernarvonshire, North Wales on 12 April 1898 to Robert and Margaret Elizabeth Pritchard, one of twelve children.
His brother Arthur emigrated to Australia, arriving at Fremantle 4 April 1927, it is believed that Charles followed in 1929.
One day after many years searching for one another they met by chance on Barrack Street, Perth.
Charles enlisted in the Australian Army, giving a false date of birth as 27 February 1907 saying that he was 33 years old, when he was in fact aged 42. He had been a repairer for the WAGR before joining up and was put into the 3rd Railway Construction Company in May 1940.
During his time in the Army, he found himself disembarking at Liverpool in 1940 and managed to get leave to visit relatives in North Wales. In early 1941 Charles was in Gaza and the Middle East.
It was during this time that he started to suffer with ill health and was transferred into the postal service, eventually being sent back to Australia in February 1943.
Charles was discharged from the AIF on 5 July 1943 in consequence of being medically unfit, not occasioned by his own default.
He returned to Narrogin and died of natural causes on 5 November 1958.
Charles never married.

Jane married Alfred Taylor Ridley in August of 1902.
