After being caught and put in jail in Turkey he escaped. He stowed away on a ship and arrived in Sydney.
He worked in Mt Isa Mines for a number of years and married in 1965. He never had any children of his own but married into a ready-made family of 3 children.
Aurel was a clerk in his native Romania but became a miner when he came to Austraila, as his qualifications were not recognised here.
He did not like driving at all and avoided it if he coul. He was killed on a WMC lease while driving across a rail crossing in a large mining vehicle.
