Further information kindly provided
by June Haggett:
There is another burial plot near Struan
House, with much earlier burials than those in the family plot. This
plot is south of Struan House, on the side of the old road. It is
thought that these graves were of workers on the Estate.
One grave that most interested me was that of E.B.N.McIntyre (known as
Norman) and his wife Mary.
The headstone is very weathered and difficult to read, but with other
information I had, was able to work it out.
ULVA
MARY McDONALD 9 April 186?
E.B.N.McINTYRE (no date given)
The McIntyre family came from the Isle of Mull, and arrived in
Portland, Vic, 30-11-1853. Norman became a shepherd for the Robertson
family at Struan. His son Peter married Ruth Haggett, which is why I
have an interest in the family. Norman McIntyre died 02-05-1880.
