Anne Rose's Family
Mary the eldest married a ships Captain named James Seymour and had 12 children, endowed with the love of the sea and ships.
Ralph lost his wife when the Elingamite sank near New Zealand. Another son Herbert lost his wife as a result of an accident at the wharf at Fremantle and another at an English Port.
Arthur Seymour, another son was awarded the OBE, by King George V and four other distinctions. He was Captain on the England – American Ocean Service. Two of his ships were hit by torpedoes, during the war. His son was also a sea Captain.
Oceania Rose born 29 July 1892 married Henry Barker Lyon of Laanecoorie, Victoria and had 13 children all of them born in Victoria. In 1897 the Lyon family joined the migration to Western Australia and I will let her Granddaughter's letter tell you their story.
From Molly Barbera, 31 Leichert Street, St James 6102, Western Australia, came June 11th 1969, the photo of Anne Rose, her grandmother.
The Lyon Family, Oceana Ellen, nee Rose and Henry Barker Lyon went to Western Australia in this wise John, Henry, Peter and Malcolm all came to the West much earlier than the rest of the family.
Malcolm died of Diphtheria at the age of 19 years, he was buried at Northam, Western Australia. After the boys returned to Victoria, the family decided to go to West Australia except John and after he was married with two children he joined his family at Brookhampton Western Australia.
It was Henry and Peter who arrived first on the "Koonawari" later Olive, Charles and Joseph on the "Bunningong" with cattle. The others came on the "Woodonga"
My Mother said the house at Brookhampton was still in the early stages of being built, her mother Oceana (Named because she was born at sea between New Zealand and Australia) took the family with Olive and lived in Bunbury for a time.
There is a list available of the children of Oceana and Henry Barker Lyon in order of age - please email Paul Andreisson - pandries@iinet.net.au
