A sign situated in the cemetery reads:
Situated near the
Depot ruins, three graves are the only reminder that
this was the cemetery for the townsite. The reported deaths at Lynton
and Port Gregory were:
BROWN , George. 1857. Whaler, drowned at
Port Gregory.
BUTCHER , John. 1854 aged 28. T.L
CORNELLY , Farrel. 1856 aged 48. Pensioner
Guard, at Lynton.
DORAN , Frances Maxton (nee Prentice). 1857
aged 40. Died after childbirth; wife of James Doran, Pensioner Guard.
DORAN , Samuel. 1857. Infant son of Frances
and James, buried at Lynton.
DORAN or SANFORD , 1861. Headstone "Sacred
Memory of (SARA ? SAM), could be the daughter of Henry Sanford, or the
son of James Doran)
DRAKE , William. 1855 aged 5 days. Son of
the William Drake, Pilot at Port Gregory. Died of convulsions and was
buried in the sandhills.
DUFFY , James. 1857 aged 28. C. P. Drowned
at Port Gregory
HAYES , Joseph. 1854 aged 31. Reported at
the Depot.
HENSHAW , James. 1854 aged 11 months. Child
of Cp. Robert. Henshaw and Mary Ann (nee Barrett), Pensioner Guard.
HENSHAW , Mary Jane. 1855 aged 4 months.
Child of Cp. Robert. Henshaw, Pensioner Guard.
REDDIN , Michael. 1854 aged 44. Pensioner
Guard. Reported at the Depot
SANFORD or DORAN , 1861. Headstone "Sacred
Memory of (SARA ? SAM), could be the daughter of Henry Sanford, or the
son of James Doran)
