A statue stands with the following inscribed on a plaque:
"In recognition of Ted McLaughlin, a local farmer and ex-POW who was determined that his mates who died on the infamour death marches from Sandakan to Ranau in Northern Borneo during the final days of WW2 would not be forgotten.
Almost single-handedly he brought to the attention of the Australian public this period of history that had been denied the recognition that it deserved by erecting this memorial in 1991 in honour of his fellow POWs"In memory of
those who
gave their lives
during the Sandakan Death March
Borneo 1945SANDAKAN
RANAU
